Junior Turkey Hunting Clinic
Held at Douglas Ridge Rifle Club
April 2, 2005

The Turkey Hunting clinic at Douglas Ridge Rifle club had 45 participants and with parents and volunteers there were 83 people in attendance. Registration started at 8:30 with coffee, hot coca and donuts. After introductions Wes Brockmiller, who is the President of the local NWTF chapter started us off with Biology which included Id, habitat, behavior, and scouting.

The next segment was Turkey hunting tips and strategies which included locating, setups, day long hunting, decoys and strategies that work. Bill Hendrix and I spoke about hunter safety and special concerns of turkey hunting.

Graig Schirle OHA Hoodview VP and owner of Tumbleweed catering served a great lunch of Hamburgers, hotdogs and all the goodies that go with them.

After lunch we broke into 3 groups, the 1st was archery which was taught by Clyde Shaver, Clackamas county Hunter Ed Coordinator, the 2nd was shotgun patterning taught by Ralph Mowatt of SKB shotguns and last was Turkey calling taught by Wes. The kids and parents had fun learning how to hunt turkeys, we had a lot of positive feedback. I did apologize in advance for the all the sounds the parents were going hear that night with about half the kids taking home calls. The day ended at 3:30 with door prizes and Q & A's.
